This is, to me, the most exciting moment in making a quilt. Oddly enough, the finishing is second, although not by much.
Here, all the work that went into designing, choosing fabrics, and sewing them together, arrives in an explosion of color and happiness. It’s been ironed flat, the backing taped to the floor, and the layers assembled for pinning.
And then quilting. Which is still my favorite part of the venture.
At this point, all the tricky and occasionally agonizing decisions have been made, have been committed to, and are irrevocable. Now I get to add the final layer, the third dimension, that brings to life everything that I’ve done so far.
This is wicked cool.
